The Aunt's Practically Magic Black Soap

Our BESTSELLING soap of all time...This bar is inspired by one of my absolute movies and books, one that contributed to me wanting to make bath and body products, grow my own herbs, and live a magical life. 

Since I created this recipe and started making this bar more than a decade ago, it has been my favorite through each of it's evolutions, getting better and better each year with the addition of at least one new oil or additive, because this soap, like so many of us, gets better as we grow and acquire knowledge and skills we didn't previously have.  While the base recipe always remains the same, the details change and become better. 

I'm not claiming I'm the first to make a soap like this but I can't recall seeing one just like it anywhere else when I first created it, over the years and moreso recently, I have seen my exact recipe, botanicals and oils copied many times and in much cheaper or quicker to make forms.  That's the other reason something is changed with each years batch, I created it to be unique and I will do my best to keep it that way for as long as I'm lucky enough to make it and bless others with it.  While it may be often imitated, it's the magic I put into each bar since I created this recipe out of love over 10 years ago that makes it unable to be duplicated.  In order to keep with tradition of the story, I aim to make one large batch every fall to sustain orders throughout the year.  Sometimes we sell out and decide to make another, other times we sell out and just let it be until the next fall.  

This soap has become one of my favorite body and facial bars that I use and I can't help but keep a few bars for myself every time I make it.  The comforting, familiar scent is sweet yet earthy and bathing with it is such a refreshing experience! It is also a great soap to cleanse off negativity, spiritually speaking of course.

I've included sea salt (an ode to midnight margaritas), rosemary (from the garden gate), and lavender (for luck).

For this bar I chose lavender, rosemary and ylang ylang essential oils because of their wonderful skin care properties, not to mention all that activated charcoal does (such as drawing dirt to the surface of the skin). All are said to be beneficial for acne as well and I have personally experienced this. Our new addition this year are essential oils of amyris and litsea cubeba and volcanic black salt (to add a little more protection).  

Not only does this look pretty but it's your one stop shop for a multitude of wonderful purposes. Sea salt is traditionally used for cleansing, charcoal helps to cleanse and ward off negativity. Lavender is a staple when it comes to relaxation but is also said to bring luck and happiness.

Ingredients: Saponified oils of olive, apricot kernel, cocoa butter, mango butter, shea butter, sunflower, coconut and grapeseed, sodium hydroxide, activated charcoal, ground black walnut hull, essential oils of ylang ylang, amyris, litsea cubeba, lavender, rosemary, and others, sea salt, and topped with rose bud petals, lavender blossoms, cornflower petals, rosemary, pink salt, volcanic black salt.

Olive Oil: Moisturizing, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, very gentle, good for acne, beneficial for eczema and psoriasis

Coconut Oil: Moisturizing, removes dead skin cells, antioxidants, prevents and/or reduces acne

Activated Charcoal: Helps remove excess dirt and oils from skin, deep cleans and removes dead skin cells, helps reduce acne, helps reduce pore size, gentle exfoliator

Black Walnut Hulls: Helps acne, helps relieve eczema, helps inflamed skin

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil: antibacterial, helps the epidermis to regenerate, balances sebum production

Lavender Essential Oil: Cleansing, detoxifying and balancing

Petitgrain Essential Oil: Balancing and toning.

Sea Salt: Draws out toxins while helping absorption of glycerin, contains beneficial minerals

Grapeseed Oil: Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, astringent
